This page is part of the ONYX Electrical Electronics Guide
This post defines how to install a Domino throttle on the 72V ONYX RCR using the factory wiring harness.
It includes throttle wiring, power switch integration, mode switch wiring, and proper connection methods.
- Uses stock ONYX throttle harness
- No additional wiring runs required
- All connections are mechanical (crimped)
Disconnect Battery
Never install a Domino throttle while the battery is plugged into the bike.
Before working on the electrical system:
- turn the bike ON
- disconnect the battery
- allow the system to fully discharge
This prevents:
- short circuits
- controller damage
- unexpected power events
Tools You’ll Need
Mechanical connections are required.
Brass crimp terminals must be used.
List of Tools You’ll Need
- Brass Crimp Terminals Connector
- Self-Adjusting Wire Stripper
- Dual Temperature Heat Gun
- Electrical Wire Loom Tape
- Shrink Tubing - 30mm
- Wire Crimping Tool
Domino Throttle and Switchs
This setup uses:
- Domino throttle
- power switch
- mode switch
If different switch wire colors are used, wiring must be verified before connecting.
Good Lighting
Work in a well-lit area.
Incorrect wire identification can damage the controller.
Mode Switch Wire Warning
The ONYX RCR mode switch wires:
- yellow → positive
- green → positive
If these wires touch while powered:
- controller damage will occur
Avoid Soldering
Use mechanical connections only.
Do not use:
- solder joints
- heat-shrink solder connectors
Use:
- brass crimp terminals
Reasons:
- better vibration resistance
- no brittle failure
- improved thermal behavior
- lower electrical resistance
On ONYX:
- only battery charge/discharge connectors should be soldered

Harness Overview
The stock throttle harness includes:
- throttle wires
- power switch wires
- mode switch wires
This harness will be reused.
No panels need to be removed.
No additional wiring runs are required.
Domino Throttle Install Instructions
Cut the Domino throttle connector:
- remove the wide connector
- cut approximately 1 inch from connector
Locate stock throttle harness:
- find the wire coming from the stock throttle
- cut approximately 2 inches from throttle

Prepare heat shrink:
- slide 5 inches of heat shrink tubing onto main harness
Strip main harness:
- remove ~2 inches of outer insulation
Strip individual wires:
- remove ~1/2 inch insulation per wire
- applies to:
- throttle
- power switch
- mode switch
Crimp connections:
- match wires using tables below
- use brass crimp terminals
- ensure secure mechanical connection
Insulate connections:
- wrap ~1.5 inches loom tape per connection
- fully cover each crimp
Test system:
- reconnect battery
- power ON using key fob
- verify:
- throttle response
- power switch
- mode switch
Final seal:
- power OFF using switch
- slide heat shrink over connections
- apply heat evenly
- rotate harness while shrinking
- stop once fully sealed

Final Notes
- verify all connections before final sealing
- do not solder signal wiring
- ensure no exposed conductors
- confirm switch behavior before riding
