This page is part of the ONYX Performance Guide
This post defines how to connect to and configure the Kelly KLS7230S controller on the 72V ONYX RCR.
It covers Bluetooth modules, AC Aduser setup, and how to access controller parameters.
- Required before changing any settings
- Defines how to read and write controller configuration
- Applies to both Bluetooth and wired connections
- AC Aduser is required for controller configuration and is not available on iPhone
Controller Connectivity Overview
The most reliable configuration method is a wired USB-to-RS232 connection on Windows.
| Platform | Method | Hardware |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Bluetooth (EDR) | White Bluetooth EDR module |
| Android | Bluetooth (BLE)* | Black Bluetooth BLE module (limited) |
| Windows | USB | USB-to-RS232 cable |
| iPhone | Not supported | — |
* Bluetooth BLE can pair, but is not the standard method for AC Aduser controller programming.
Connect Android to AC Aduser
| Method | Hardware |
|---|---|
| Android | Kelly Bluetooth EDR module |
| Windows | USB-to-RS232 cable |
Bluetooth Module Types
ONYX systems use two Bluetooth module types for controller communication.
- White Bluetooth EDR module (classic Bluetooth)
- Black Bluetooth BLE module (low energy Bluetooth)
Older ONYX bikes (V1.0 and V1.2) typically use the white Bluetooth EDR module, which does not support iPhone.
Newer models (V1.5, V1.75, LTD) use the black Bluetooth BLE module, which supports iPhone and Android at the hardware level.
For controller programming with AC Aduser:
- EDR is the primary and required method on Android
- BLE can pair but is not the standard method for controller configuration
- Windows bypasses Bluetooth entirely using a wired connection
iPhone support applies to Bluetooth connectivity only. AC Aduser is not available on iPhone, so controller configuration cannot be performed from iOS.
All modules and the USB cable connect using the same JST SM 4-pin connector.

Pairing Steps
- Turn bike ON
- Open Bluetooth settings
- Wait ~30 seconds
- Look for an 8-digit device ID
Example:
21072647
Password:
1234

Connection Steps
- Open AC Aduser
- Tap Yes
- Select Bluetooth
- Choose device ID
- Tap Connect
- Tap Read
Wired Connection (Windows)
Use a USB-to-RS232 cable connected through the ONYX controller harness using the JST SM 4-pin connector.
- Required for Windows-based configuration
- Most stable connection method
- Avoids Bluetooth pairing and connection issues
