General Maintenance
Take care of your ONYX, and it will take care of you! Regular maintenance is essential for keeping your ONYX bike in top condition. If the maintenance and service procedures outlined in this schedule are beyond your expertise, bring your bike to shop for regular care. If there isn’t a shop in your area, me or ONYX AF for a recommendation. Ensure that any service provider records the maintenance in your log and keep all service documents. These records are valuable if you transfer ownership and can provide our technicians with helpful insights into your bike’s history.
Cleaning
Regularly clean and lubricate all moving parts, tighten any loose nuts and bolts, and make necessary adjustments. Pay special attention to the steering components, pedals, suspension, and wheel assemblies.
Check Your Nuts & Bolts
As with any moving vehicle, it’s important to check your hardware before every ride. Start with a visual inspection by walking around the bike to ensure everything looks secure, then perform a physical check every few rides to ensure no components have loosened due to vibrations. Bikes ridden on rough terrain may require more frequent maintenance and checks.
Thread Locker
Apply thread locker to loose nuts and bolts or to ensure a more secure and reliable tightening.
Check The Conditions Of Your Wires
Inspect all wires for sheathing wear and loose connections.
Check Electronic Components
Inspect all electronic components on the bike and beneath the battery cover to ensure they are functioning properly.
Alarm Key Fob Battery Replacement
Use a fine-tip flathead screwdriver to carefully pop off the two chrome sides of the remote, starting at the top. Once removed, begin at the bottom and work your way around the edges to open the clamshell. The fob uses a CR2032 battery.
Front Brake
The front brake is hydraulic and requires brake fluid to function properly. Always ensure the brake reservoir has enough fluid, as low levels can lead to a loss of braking ability. Check the fluid level through the reservoir’s side window while the bike is on a level surface. If you lack experience with maintaining hydraulic brakes, have a professional refill or bleed them as needed. Never ride with leaks or damaged brake lines, as this compromises your safety.
Rear Brake
In addition to replacing the brake pads when necessary, make sure to adjust the brake cable as the pads wear down or as the cable settles with regular use.
Chain & Free Wheel
Regularly lubricate your chain and freewheel to prevent premature wear, and clean the chain after riding in dirty or salty conditions.
Long Term Storage
Follow best practices for Li-Ion battery maintenance, and disconnect the battery from the bike if it won’t be used for over a month.
