ONYX Winter Riding

Most of my ONYX friends can’t help but smile at the odd joy of walking into a warm coffee shop, shedding layers of winter riding gear like we’re a part of some two-wheeled show. And let’s be honest-coffee tastes at least ten times better when it’s earned with frosty heroic entrance. Every year, we seem to recruit more riders for the winter season, and once they’re properly geared up and over the initial chill, they all say the same thing: “Why didn’t I do this last winter?”

Ride Your ONYX

Yes, yes, you can absolutely ride your ONYX in the winter-even when it’s -5°F. Don’t worry, the bike will be just fine… as long as you follow these simple steps and don’t treat it like a popsicle on wheels. The right riding gear makes all the difference for winter riding.

  • Riding below 32°F won’t harm your bike or battery.
  • Keep stops under 4 hours when temperatures dip below 32°F.
  • Street tires with solid tread, like the Michelin City Extra are great.

Below 32°F, you temporarily lose about 10% range, but don’t worry-it comes back during the warmer months. It’s only a seasonal effect!

ONYX Fenders

Fenders are a winter riding game-changer-saving your clothes, shoes, and ONYX from a mess! Late 2023 brought us the sleek Bober front fender, followed by rear fenders in both straight and curved profiles, and finally, the Touring front fender-all 3D-printed masterpieces by Z-Creation. Stay clean, ride cool!

Winter Wear

The ultimate hack for winter riding your ONYX? A lightweight down jacket that slips under any jacket you want to rock. Pair that with thermal base layers, and you’ll feel like a toasty burrito cruising through the cold!

Battery Winter Storage

  • Bring your ONYX battery indoors overnight when temperatures drop below 32°F.
  • Always disconnect the battery from the bike if it will not be used for more than a month.
