Notes For Domino Throttle Install
I have included links to power switches and mode switches with specific wire colors. If you select a switch with different wire colors, please reach out for a diagram to ensure the correct wire assignments.
Always work in a well-lit area to avoid confusion with wire color arrangements, as incorrect wiring can damage the controller. Before starting any electrical work, turn on the bike, then unplug the battery to fully discharge all electrical components.
- Be cautious with the Onyx RCR’s mode switch wiring.
- The Onyx RCR’s mode switch brown wire is negative.
- The Onyx RCR’s mode switch yellow and green wires are positive.
- If the Onyx RCR’s yellow and green wires touch while the bike is powered on, it will cause damage to the controller.
Avoid Soldering
Electrical engineers-whether in automotive, utility companies, or working as ONYX Motors mechanics-will recommend avoiding soldering and heat-shrink self-soldering butt connectors. On an ONYX, only the battery charge and discharge connectors should be soldered.
Instead, you’ll be advised to follow the automotive industry standard of using crimp terminal connectors. Mechanical wire joining is far superior to soldering due to its resistance to tension, reduced risk of solder becoming brittle, better temperature performance, and lower resistance. Soldering should only be used as a last resort when no other options are available.
Mechanical Connectors are Better
Always use brass crimp terminals. Use the links below to find the correct connectors, accessories, and tools.
- Brass Crimp Terminals Connector - 0.5 to 1.5mm
- Wire Crimping Tool - 0.25 to 1.5mm
- Electrical Wire Loom Tape
Wrap the individual wires with electric loom tape, then use 30mm shrink tubing to encase all the Domino throttle and switch wiring. Alternatively, use 6.4mm shrink tubing to cover the individual wires.
