Aftermarket Service Fees
Consider the ONYX aftermarket service fees below as your shop’s pit crew playbook. ONYX repairs aren’t cheap, and shops stay afloat by servicing multiple brands.
Shop Service Fees
- Standard rates cover basics; complex jobs need precision and custom work.
- Storage is $20/day for the first 4 days, then $40/day.
Service | Flat Fee | Hourly Fee |
---|---|---|
Standard Service | $110/h | |
Complex Service | $130h | |
Diagnosis | $90 | |
Rush | $150 | |
Tune-Up | $125 | |
Daily Storage | $20 | |
After Incident Inspection | $130 |
Fair Aftermarket Pricing
Aftermarket pricing is all over the map, with hourly rates swinging from $50 to $200, making it hard to pin down a “fair” price. There’s no set standard either-ONYX service pros range from OG factory techs to independent fixers.
Parts Markup
Expect at least a 15% markup on parts-selling them is a risk for shops, and inventory space isn’t free!
Upgrade Costs
Controller and motor upgrades? That’s a whole different game, with prices varying based on the quality of work.
Independent Fixers Service Fees
Independent fixers without shop overhead should set a fair hourly rate-too low undervalues their work and adds stress, while too high can hurt their reputation if skills don’t match. Those with under three years of experience and low reputation should start at $60/hour, while those with over three years and a strong reputation should aim for $80/hour to stay fair without underselling or overpromising.
Transporting an ONYX
Getting your ONYX to a service spot is as easy as booking an Uber! Check out the ONYX Transport post for all the details.
ONYX Service Locations
These service providers are a mix of community recommendations and my own picks-shops and individuals across the country who deliver top-notch work at fair prices.
Hoping to Score
Shops and individuals often host group rides and events to promote their repair business-sometimes it works out great, other times it crashes and burns in a spectacular, drama-filled mess (which, I admit, is hilariously entertaining). I don’t fully trust these gatherings, but the ones I do roll with are top-tier and a blast.
Doing it For Fun
I’ve been in the game since 2019, building teams and communities. Want to build a real one? Do it for free-cutting rates and discounts won’t cut it. From 2019 to 2022, I worked on ONYX bikes for free because, let’s be real, you can’t compete with free. I still do it sometimes just to shake up the aftermarket and keep the scene evolving. ONYX had my back on special projects, but the community always came first.
