ONYX Cleaning

How often you wash your ONYX? Your call! But a good rule of thumb-every three weeks keeps it fresh. Choosing between a waterless wash or an outdoor rinse makes all the difference! A few minutes of either method can seriously level up your ONYX’s care and shine.

Just remember-waterless wash is for light dirt! But don’t hesitate to brush or wipe off any loose grime with a clean microfiber cloth first to avoid scratching your paint before going in with the waterless wash.

Steel Polish

After washing your ONYX, hit the frame, forks, pedal arms, rims, kickstand, swing arm, and spokes with steel polish for that exquisite shine!

Cleaning Do’s and Don’ts

Rain is The Worst

After a rainy ride, your ONYX picks up all sorts of grime from the road-think of it as a magnet for the nastiest gunk. That dirt sticks everywhere and is packed with contaminants that can speed up rusting. So, give your ride a quick clean ASAP to keep it looking fresh and corrosion-free!

Clean Brake Disc

Only use brake cleaner-no WD-40 or lubricants! Clean outdoors only. Spray short bursts from 6-10 inches away and let it drip off naturally. Most evaporates fast; wipe stubborn grime with a lint-free rag. Keep off paint and plastic. Don’t touch discs or pads after cleaning!

Cleaning Salt Off

Salt isn’t just sitting on your ONYX-it dissolves into an abrasive mess! Scrubbing without loosening it first can scratch your ride. Dissolve the salt first with Salt Off, diluted vinegar, or a baking soda mix (1 tbsp per gallon of warm water). Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off-no crazy scrubbing needed!

Winter Storage Cleaning

Winter prep for your ONYX? Besides unplugging the battery (charged between 76V-79V), give it a good clean before hibernation! It’s also the perfect time to apply wax or ceramic coating for extra protection.

Removing Bugs

Riding off the beaten path? Bug splatter comes with the territory! But scrubbing too hard can damage your paint. Instead, loosen them up first-use hot water or bug remover for an easy wipe-off.

Cleaning Tires

Keep polish and oils off the tire tread! If you shine up the sidewalls, make sure to thoroughly clean off any residue from the tread with a proper cleaner-slippery tires are a no-go!

Avoid Pressure Washing

Unless you’re a pro who knows exactly how to pressure wash an ONYX, leave that high-pressure washer alone.

Bike Cover Storage

Storing your ONYX outdoors under a cover? Rust loves that! Rims and spokes exposed year-round can take a hit, so if your bike’s been sitting, give them a good wash. Heavier covers help, and for extra protection, treat the rims and spokes with a clear coat!

Avoid Using Car Shampoo

Car shampoo, detergent, and body wash? Not for your ONYX! It may look tough, but its paint, wood, and materials are delicate. The wrong cleaners can damage the finish and components-stick to the right stuff!

Waterless Wash Cleaning

Cleaning your ONYX indoors? Bold move! Waterless washing is a game-changer, but outdoors is always better. If you’re inside, avoid carpets-any other floor is fair game. A quick wipe with a damp paper towel or placing a few underneath will catch any stray dirt or drips. Easy, clean, and mess-free!

How to Wash an ONYX

Anything above the green line? Off-limits for a garden hose or high-pressure washer! Stick with a microfiber cloth to gently clean the display, seat, wood battery cover, and handlebars. And whatever you do, don’t spray water into the red-boxed areas-those lead straight into the motor phase harness, battery compartment, or internal body. Clean smart, not risky!

Water Wash Cleaning

A short-handled brush and microfiber mitt is the best choice-it helps you reach tight spots, scrub the spokes, rims, and chain more effectively, and makes cleaning easier. Ditch the sponge!
