Disconnect Battery

Never install a Domino throttle while the battery is plugged into the bike. Before working on your ONYX’s electrical system, always disconnect the battery while the bike is on to fully discharge the system. This eliminates the risk of short circuits, shocks, or any unexpected damage-keeping both you and your ride safe!

Tools You’ll Need

Mechanical connections are always the way to go-brass crimp terminals are a must! Head over to the ONYX Tools Post to find the right connectors, accessories, and tools for the job.

List of Tools You’ll Need

  • Brass Crimp Terminals Connector
  • Self-Adjusting Wire Stripper
  • Dual Temperature Heat Gun
  • Electrical Wire Loom Tape
  • Shrink Tubing - 30mm
  • Wire Crimping Tool

Domino Throttle and Switchs

I have included links to power switches and mode switches with specific wire colors. If you select a switch with different wire colors, please reach out for a diagram to ensure the correct wire assignments.

Good Lighting

Always work in a well-lit area to avoid confusion with wire color arrangements, as incorrect wiring can damage the controller.

Mode Switch Wire Warning

The ONYX RCR’s mode switch yellow and green wires are positive. If the Onyx RCR’s yellow and green wires touch while the bike is powered on, it will cause damage to the controller.

Avoid Soldering

Electrical engineers-whether in automotive or utility companies will recommend avoiding soldering and heat-shrink self-soldering butt connectors. Instead, you’ll be advised to follow the automotive industry standard of using crimp terminal connectors. Mechanical wire joining is far superior to soldering due to its resistance to tension, reduced risk of solder becoming brittle, better temperature performance, and lower resistance.

On an ONYX, only the battery charge and discharge connectors should be soldered. Soldering should only be used as a last resort when no other options are available.

Domino Throttle Install Instructions

Ensure you have all the parts and tools listed on this page before starting the work. The stock throttle wire assembly will serve as the new harness for your Domino throttle, power switch, and mode switch. There’s no need to remove any side panels or run additional wires.

The stock throttle wire assembly includes the throttle wires, power switch wires, and mode wires. The Domino throttle comes with a wide connector, which you will cut off about an inch from the connector.

Locate the wire coming from the stock throttle as shown by the red arrow in the picture below, and cut the wire about an two inches from the throttle.

Follow the wire color tables below for proper connections. Start by sliding 5 inches of heat shrink tubing over the main wire assembly coming from the bike, which you previously cut from the stock throttle.

Strip about 2 inches of the main insulation from the stock wire assembly, Domino throttle, mode switch, and power switch. Then strip 1/2 inch of insulation from each individual wire on the stock wire assembly, Domino throttle, mode switch, and power switch.

After stripping the wires, crimp each one securely according to the color tables. Wrap 1 1/2 inches of electrical loom tape around each crimp connection, ensuring that the tape completely covers the brass connector.

Once all connections are taped, plug the battery back into the bike and turn it on using the key fob. Test the power switch, mode switch, and throttle to confirm they are functioning properly.

When everything is working correctly, turn off the bike using the power switch. Slide the shrink tubing over the connectors and use a heat gun to shrink the tubing. Keep the heat gun moving steadily and rotate the main harness wire as the tubing shrinks. Once the tubing has fully shrunk, stop applying heat.
