This post explains how to use GPS performance meters on the ONYX RCR to measure real-world speed, acceleration, braking, and ride performance.

It starts with a simple overview of what these devices do, then walks through mounting, hardware options, and the apps used to analyze your data.

Quick Overview

If you just want the short version:

  • GPS meters measure speed, 0-60 mph, braking, and distance with extreme accuracy
  • RaceBox Mini and Dragy are the two best options
  • Mount them to the front body panel (not the handlebars)
  • Use the mobile apps to review runs and compare rides
  • Great for tuning, battery testing, and friendly competition

Why Use a GPS Performance Meter

Access to accurate ride data makes it easier to understand how your motor, controller, and battery setup perform in the real world.

It helps you:

  • Compare stock vs upgraded setups
  • Track acceleration and top speed changes
  • Measure real riding range
  • Share results with other riders
  • Monitor improvements over time

Instead of guessing, you get objective numbers you can trust.

GPS Meter Mount (Important)

  • Do not mount the RaceBox Mini or Dragy on the handlebars, side panels, or rear rack.

Recommended location:

  • Front body panel, directly in front of the wooden battery cover

Mounting tips:

  • Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol
  • Let it fully dry
  • Use strong 3M Velcro (even if magnets are included)
  • Press firmly and allow time to bond

This location gives the GPS antenna a clear sky view while keeping the device secure at high speed.

GPS Performance Meters

Both devices are designed for high-precision performance tracking.

They can record:

  • 0-30 / 0-60 mph times
  • Quarter-mile runs
  • Top speed
  • Braking distance
  • G-forces
  • Full GPS ride traces

Accuracy is typically within 1/100th of a second, making them ideal for tuning and comparisons.

GPS Meter Apps

App differences:

  • Dragy has built-in leaderboards and social features
  • RaceBox supports multiple third-party analysis apps
  • Both allow exporting runs and reviewing detailed stats

Final Notes

  • Use GPS meters for tuning and validation, not street racing
  • Always secure the device with adhesive, not magnets alone
  • Keep firmware and apps updated for best accuracy
  • Small changes in battery or controller tuning show clearly in the data

Once you start logging runs, it becomes one of the most useful tools for understanding and improving your ONYX build.
