Tools You’ll Need

You’ve got a few slick options for mounting your Quad Lock: slap it in the center of your handlebar below the display, drill into the steering stem nut, or swap it out for a hollow one without a cover. It’s more of an intermediate-level mod, but nail it, and you’ll have a phone mount setup worth bragging about.

Check out the ONYX tools post and grab the gear you need from the list below!

Hollow Steering Stem Nut

Apply two drops of thread lock to the steering stem nut before tightening it to 40 Nm. Steering stem nut M25 X 30 X P1.0.

Fork Stem Mount Drill Option

You can drill out the original steering stem top nut cap with a 13mm bit to fit any steering stem phone mount. Pro tip: pop off the top nut with a 30mm socket before drilling, then reinstall it with threadlocker and torque it down to 40 Nm. Want to keep it clean? Just grab a steering stem nut without a cap instead-both options get the job done!

Quad Lock Handlebar Mount

To centrally mount the Quad Lock handlebar kit, start by removing the four handlebar clamp screws. Adjust the spacers by decreasing the bottom size and increasing the top to ensure proper alignment. This setup keeps the display unobstructed while allowing the mount to rotate between horizontal and vertical positions. Apply threadlocker to all four handlebar clamp riser screws and tighten them to 20Nm.

Quad Lock Fork Stem Mount

The Pro version of the Quad Lock fork stem mount features a metal expansion nut with two tabs, whereas the non-Pro version is made of plastic, making its expansion nut tabs prone to breaking if overtightened or repeatedly removed. The bottom expansion nut expands to secure three locking grips inside the head tube.

Fork Stem Mount Pro Version

  • Pro version (black) uses a metal expansion nut.
  • The regualr version (blue) uses a plastic expansion nut.

Fork Stem Mount Plastic Expansion Nut

The plastic version limits the mount’s long-term durability, as it can only be removed and reinstalled a few times before the plastic nut fails.

Fork Stem Mount Metal Expansion Nut

The metal expansion nut provides a stronger grip and increased durability.
