This post shows how to install a Quad Lock phone mount on an ONYX while keeping the factory display fully visible and centered.
It starts with simple mounting options, then walks through parts, tools, and detailed installation steps for both handlebar and fork-stem setups.
Quick Overview
If you just want the short version:
- Both handlebar and stem mounting keep the display visible
- Handlebar mounting is easiest and fully reversible
- Stem mounting is cleaner but requires drilling or a hollow stem nut
- Use the vibration dampener to protect your phone camera
- Always use threadlocker and proper torque
Quad Lock Parts
These are the core parts used for ONYX installs:
Mounting Positions Explained
The Quad Lock can be installed in two main ways:
- Handlebar mount -> clamps to the bars below the display
- Stem mount -> installs into the large silver top cap screw below the display
Both methods keep the screen unobstructed and allow horizontal or vertical phone rotation.

Quad Lock Handlebar Mount (Recommended)
This is the simplest and most popular option.
Steps:
- Remove the four handlebar clamp screws
- Cut the thick spacer in half and place it on the top clamp half
- Cut the thin spacer in half and place it on the bottom clamp half
- Stack the remaining thin spacer if needed for perfect fit
- Apply threadlocker to all mount screws and riser bolts
- Torque everything to 20 Nm
This keeps the phone centered while preserving full display visibility.

Quad Lock Fork Stem Mount (Cleaner Look)
This option places the phone directly in the center of the cockpit.
Two ways to do it:
- Drill out the stock stem cap with a 13mm bit
- Replace it with a hollow steering stem nut
Pro tips:
- Remove the top nut using a 30mm socket before drilling
- Reinstall with threadlocker
- Torque the stem nut to 40 Nm

Hollow Steering Stem Nut Options
Apply two drops of threadlocker before final tightening.
Tools You’ll Need
- 30mm socket
- 10mm socket
- 5mm hex key
- 13mm drill bit
- Threadlocker
Stem mounting is an intermediate-level mod, but the result is a very clean setup.
Quad Lock Stem Mount Versions
There are two versions of the stem mount:
- Pro version (black) -> metal expansion nut
- Regular version (blue) -> plastic expansion nut

Metal Expansion Nut
- Strong grip
- Can be removed and reinstalled many times
- Recommended for long-term use
Plastic Expansion Nut
- Weaker grip
- Tabs can break if overtightened
- Limited reinstall cycles
Final Recommendation
- Want easiest install -> Handlebar mount + vibration dampener
- Want cleanest look -> Stem mount (Pro version)
- Always use threadlocker and proper torque
Either setup works great on the ONYX, just choose based on how clean you want your cockpit to look versus how much work you want to do.
