Notes For Onyx 41AH Battery Balancing

If, after following these instructions, one of your cell groups (1 to 20) consistently reads below 2.5V, the battery is damaged. Onyx 41Ah batteries are reaching the end of their lifespan and are generally not worth repairing. Contact your local Waste Management or Department of Environmental Protection for proper disposal guidance.

Battery Management System (BMS)

The Battery Management System (BMS), located within the battery pack, is responsible for critical tasks like balancing individual cells. This process ensures equal voltage across all cells, typically aiming for a minimal difference-a delta of 0.005V is considered optimal.

Onyx 41AH Battery BMS Balancing Functions

  • The Onyx 41AH battery management system is continuous balancing without the need for a connected charger.
  • Only the Onyx 41AH battery features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing real-time monitoring through iOS or Android apps. These apps provide data such as individual cell voltages, overall pack voltage, and the cell delta (voltage variation).

Constant Voltage Charging vs. Balancing

Charging a battery from 97% to 100% involves “constant voltage charging” (also known as trickle charging), which is not the same as balancing. For a 72V battery in a 20s8p arrangement, using a charger rated between 2A and 8A, it typically takes about 95 minutes to charge from 97% to 100%.
